Mangroves & Mosquitoes

An excursion in our tender, Io, from Jupiter’s overnight anchorage in Card Sound provides a remarkable wilderness experience.  This Sound is surrounded by an immense forests of mangrove (ignoring Turkey Point nuclear power plant), accessible only by small boat through narrow waterways such as historic Steamboat Creek connecting Card and Barnes Sounds, and running through Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

As the sun sets, and the glow of Miami-Dade county illuminates the northern sky, the mangrove denizens emerge.

“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito”–African proverb.
