Cozumel of the North

Having completed all repairs and preparations we set out this morning from Bellingham bound for Sidney, B.C. in near perfect conditions.

Departing NW Explorations, Squalicum Harbor, Bellingham

To date, the weather has far exceeded expectations for this part of the world.  Having expressed this sentiment to a dock mate he optimistically noted that Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula is known as the “Cozumel of the North”.

Semi-submerged logs are a constant hazard

Our passage wound through the narrow channels of the San Juan Islands.  Winds were light, the sun bright, and seas calm, however semi-submerged logs and debris were a significant hazard all along the route.  We enjoyed glimpses of the snow-capped peaks of Mount Baker and the Olympic Peninsula.

Welcome to Canada

Clearance into Canada was quickly accomplished through a phone call to Customs in Sidney.  Tomorrow will be a shore day to stock up on fresh produce which cruisers may not transport across the border.  Our only stow-away was a small wasp hitching a ride to Canada.

I love reading your posts. We also had perfect weather in Bellingham and BC last fall. We saw a little of the islands via ferry rides and hope to explore some day.

I agree with Susan. I really enjoy the posts!

I finally spotted the kayaks. Great job of mounting them on Jupiter. They blend beautifully.
